The attendees milled about and then took their seats.
As Master of Ceremonies Merv took charge of the night and welcomed everyone. He then had us all stand and led us into the afore mentioned National Anthem and thence the loyal toast to the Rotary Club of Dromana.
Mervâs associate organiser, Lyn Lewis, now issued the Invocation (extended version) before we were rested to enjoy the entree.
Our hunger having been assuaged, Charles Ross now delivered the toast to Rotary International which was responded to by Past District Governor Mark Humphries.
The Club was now presented with a Certificate, Honouring 50 Years of Membership, by District Governor Elect Linda Humphries. The Certificate was accepted by President Greg who responded to Lindaâs congratulatory speech.
Greg now remained at the lectern to present a Paul Harris Fellow to Captain Timothy Desmond. Greg spoke at length about Timâs achievements and made it obvious that he is a worthy recipient. Tim then thanked Rotary Foundation and the Club for the honour.
Quickly, before the main course, Greg also presented Timâs wife Robyn with some flowers.
After main course we made a good fist of singing Happy Birthday (though fitting âDromana Rotary Clubâ into the lyrics was a challenge) while Past Presidents Geoff Taylor and Ross Whitehead cut the remarkable cake.
After we had soothed our vocal cords Assistant Governor Peter Rawlings came to the lectern for a special presentation.
Peter spoke about President Gregâs commitment to the environment and presented him with a Rotary International Environment Award in recognition of that commitment and all the work he has done to protect and repair our environment.
Greg thanked Peter for his kind words and Rotary for the Award. He also then went on to thanks all those who had a part in the organisation and presentation of tonightâs celebration. Jenny for the amazing cake; Rick for printing the booklet and placemats; Lyn for all her work, and Merv for all his efforts culminating in a great job as MC.
Merv and Lyn thanked Greg and everyone for attending and pointed out that there was a table of memorabilia for us to peruse, and enjoy, at our leisure.
The meeting closed at 9:00.

Attached is a link to the Humanitex website and invitation to The Peninsula Cluster -Interplast Celebration Dinner. Just to confirm that each Club is entitled to a table of eight. The tickets can be booked in individual names or the Club could make a bulk booking. The key question is attendees.
Whilst we are of course very well advanced with the funding target itself the dinner will give us an opportunity to gain valuable PR that we can all use. Meeting some of the people who do this valuable work is inspiring.
See as many as possible on November 8th.
