President Tyrrell’s Tales
We had an interesting guest speaker and support team last week. It is amazing how people can gain strength out of adversary and go on to assist others who might be suffering from a similar problem to themselves. This was brought out last week with the presentation of Nick Shepherd and the team.  Nick has form an association to assist people who have depression and may consider suicide and is about to undertake a mammoth journey by para-boarding around Australia to raise funds and awareness. This appears to me to be an almost unachievable goal but strength of character and physical strength can overcome a lot.
Nick did not appeal for funds from the Club but asked what could Rotary, and Rotarians around Australia do to help. It might be possible for Rotarians around Australia to  meet Nick and the team as they come ashore on the circumnavigation by giving moral support or introduce Nick as guest speaker on his journey to make others aware of his quest.  I will speak to this at the upcoming Cluster Meeting.
See you all Thursday evening

Our Guest Speaker Drew King
Drew was 13 years at Rosebud Secondary College last changed moved to Dromana Secondary.
While he was at Rosebud the made four trips with students to developing countries., with the aid of a company called World Challenge.
The benefit of such a company such as this is that they prove a safety net have country agents in the country visits and organise the community service and the trek.
The children are taken out of their comfort zone, build up their leadership skills, and experience team building, and come back knowing how lucky they are!
This year the trip is over the period 14th June 6th July
The children have to raise the funds themselves to pay for the trip.
Thus year the trip will cost $6290.

It occurred to me while writing this that we could ask those children that want to go to help us in some of our projects in return for some financial  support from us.
A bit late this year. But with projects such as Halloween, the art show, and the raffle later in the years this could be a possibility.
